Sending out a Birth Announcement
Having a baby is a wonderful event for everyone involved but it also can be a little stressful. Sending out birth announcements after the baby is born will probably be the furthest thing from your mind but it is important. Sending out a birth announcement should be done at a specific time and with a little planning will help minimize stress. Below we look at the time line to follow to help you send out the perfect baby announcement at the right time.
When to Send out Baby Announcements
Ideally the baby announcement should be sent out as soon after the birth as possible. This does not always happen as having a baby is a hectic time. If you forget to send out your birth announcements immediately after the baby is born that is okay. You should try and send them within the first six months after your baby is born. If the baby is born around the holidays sending an announcement of the birth combined with a holiday greeting is a great idea.
Birth Announcement Planning
Two months before your due date is a great time to compile a list of names and addresses. You should write them down and keep them in an address book for safe keeping. It’s a good idea to incorporate help in order to compile a complete list.
One month before you will want to do the following:
· Choose the birth announcement design. Inviting Concepts has lots of designs and styles to choose from. You will also want to select the wording you want for the baby announcements.
· If you do not know the baby’s gender make sure you have a girl and boy announcement selected. Some parents choose one of each even if they do know the sex of the baby just in case the physician was wrong.
· Go ahead and fill out the envelopes with your address ahead of time. This saves a lot of time as you probably will not feel like filling out envelopes after your baby is born.
· Purchase enough postage from the post office so you do not have to make an extra trip.
After Baby is Born
The announcement for baby should go out as soon as possible after the baby is born. If you forget that is okay. Remember, you have six months to get them out, but the sooner the better.
Birth Announcement Etiquette
You will want to include standard information on the baby announcement such as:
- Parents Names
- Baby’s name
- Date of Birth
- Time of Birth
- Birth Weight
- Birth Length
Most parents do not personally sign each announcement and that is fine. The recipients understand how busy you are. You may want to sign some for a few close friends or relatives. Also, let the recipients decide on whether or not they want to purchase a gift. It is not the best etiquette to include a registry location or a no gift policy. If you do receive a baby gift after sending out baby announcements make sure to send a thank you not as soon as possible. To select the perfect thank you card check out our wide selection above.
