How to Purchase Wedding Invitations
Selecting the perfect wedding invitations is one of the most important steps in planning your wedding. The invitation announces to all of your family and friends about your upcoming nuptials. Read on to find out how to purchase the perfect invitations.
Create your Invitation List
Sit down with your fiancé and make the list out. Only send one invitation per couple and family. This is a great way to save a lot of money. Keep in mind your budget for the reception and the location size of the wedding ceremony. Even if you know people will probably not be able to make it, you should still send them an invitation.
Allow Plenty of Time for Printing
Many places take up to six weeks to print your invitations so be sure to order well in advance. Inviting Concepts typically needs only 2-3 weeks to have your wedding invitations printed.
Wording
You can choose anything you want on your wedding invitations because it is your day. No matter what you put just remember to cover the basic information of who, what, when, and where.
· Who – this is who is doing the inviting
· What – the announcement of the wedding
· When – the date of the wedding
· Where – the location(s) of the wedding and reception
Also remember to put the RSVP date. Six weeks beforehand is the recommended time to send out the wedding invites.
The return address should be printed on the invitations for legibility. Order extra in case you make mistakes.
Spelling
Make sure you know how to spell your fiancé’s parents name correctly. Many people skip over this small detail and it ends up costing them time and money. Also make sure to ask them how they would like their names formatted. For example, John and Jane Smith or Mr. and Mrs. John Smith.
Proofread
Get a couple of people to proofread. It’s not a good idea to do it yourself because you have probably memorized the information, making it much more likely you will make a mistake.
Font, Color, Size
Simpler fonts allow for more information to go on the invite. Fancy looking fonts can be hard to read and should only be used in larger print sizes. You will also want your invitation to be similar in color and style to your wedding. The invitation really needs to set the tone for the look and feel of your ceremony and reception.
Registry Card
Do not include a registry card. You and your parents can spread the word verbally. If you do include a registry card do it tastefully and avoid ones with store logos. Simply use a card that matches the invite and put a website address.
